About DotA AllStars
DotA stands for Defense of the Ancients. It's a mod for the game Warcraft3 http://www.blizzard.com/worlds-warcraft.shtml .
DotA is made by some really really enthusiastic gamers. You can find out more about this wonderful game at http://dota-allstars.com/ .
Even though it isn't an official Blizzard (the company that produced WC3) product, DotA is still being supported in Blizzard's Battlenet servers. Gamers from all over the world play this game. On weekend nights, you can see lots & lots of S'porean gamers playing DotA games in the servers! In local LAN shops, one can often see DotA being played too!
The latest version of the game at this point of time is 6.09b. I have been playing since version 5.54c. Maybe a year or so? I m fairly ok in this game, but I can't say that I m a pro. Basically, I know my way around most heroes and I try my best not to get killed... LOL!
I used to play DotA with my older bro, but he started working and became busy. I currently play DotA with JC. I 1st knew JC after my O-levels, but it was because of KOF, another great game… I’ll rant about KOF another day hehe. I “psychoed” JC into getting WC3 to play DotA with me, and he is becoming a rather good player himself! More about our encounters in the future.
The makers of DotA really really went thru lots of hard work to fine tune the game. There are now over 50 heroes for players to choose from. However, it is unavoidable that some of the heroes are most overpowered, while some are sadly weaker. Like other games, players tend to favour the overpowered heroes most of the time. Who would want to pick a weaker hero?
Basically, who likes to lose?
My favorite hero of DotA is Leoric, the Skeleton King. I have his mug shot as the picture of my profile hehehe. And yes, I admit that Leoric is widely considered to be one of the better heroes of the game. Maybe that’s why I like him… Hahahaha!
